“Welcome to the Room, a space to gather, kick back, and plot your next adventure.”
As you all may know, I am a huge advocate for adventure. And this sentence, a statement from straight from The Room’s website, speaks to my restless soul.
I promised you in the next edition of Thirsty Thursday, I would venture outside of Federal Hill. And I’ve upheld my promise. Recently renovated, the “cozy subterranean spot with throwback style” located in Mt. Vernon’s 800 St. Paul Street is now quaintly referred to as The Room. The newest addition to this trendy part of town perfectly combines coffeehouse vibe with contemporary bar, epitomizing the term “coffee bar”. I’ve stopped in multiple times after work to either sip on a coffee + catch my breath or to grab beers with a friend or two; I’m slowly noticing the increasing amount of customers each time I return.
As the popularity of cafe/bar hybrids grow, I know this hidden gem will thrive in the Mt. Vernon neighborhood once it’s presence is well established. Wanna check it out? The hip spot has happy hour from 5-7 PM, M-F offering $1 off a limited selection of draft beer & bottles/cans of other craft favorites. Not feeling beer? No worries, The Room also offers draft wine (HH applies to these as well!)& bottles. Prices range from $5/can-$9/glass.
They also offer a standard range of coffee & espresso beverages (cappacino, macchiato, cortado, latte, iced coffee.) If you’re hungry, the menu is also scattered with a variety of small plates + sandwiches.
My favorite part about The Room, however, isn’t the drinks. The small space has a ton of character. The ceiling has a geometric mural, and a variety of unique light fixtures hang over the bar. The ambiance of the spot is further enhanced by free-standing tables sporting tops made of old chess boards, a set of couch and chairs for groups, and seating at a window bar for people watching (possibly my favorite.)
The people are nice, the atmosphere is casual (yet very Mt. Vernon), and the location is great. It’s accessible from the Purple Route of the circulator and most other modes of public transportation that stop at the monument (MTA, Hopkins shuttle, etc.), as it’s only about two blocks from the Washington Monument. It’s a cool spot to grab a drink or two before checking out some other Mt. Vernon spots or a low-key spot to take your laptop and just chill.
They’re open Tues-Fri 5 PM – 10 PM & Sat from 11AM-6PM (Closed Sundays & Mondays) Stop by when you’re in the area, and as always, let me know what you think! I love to hear your thoughts and feedback about the places featured on Thirsty Thursday. Better yet, reach out to me on Instagram when you’re stopping by (@stylishlytayloredblog) & maybe I’ll just meet you there 😉

Until next time, keep it stylish! Xoxo
