The beginning of 2017 has been unpredictable in many aspects — weather being one of them. I mentioned the bipolar weather in my last post about the Cherry Blossom Festival, as I was hoping the extreme shifts wouldn’t do too much damage on those beautiful trees!
All this fluctuation has meant some serious wardrobe confusion for us humans, too. Pants + sweater turn to dresses; that dress turns into dresses with tights; and those tights are quickly paired with snow boots. The struggle is real – I’m sure you’re all feeling it too haha. Pulling pieces out of my warm weather stocks to only quickly put them away again has me losing my (organizational) mind!
Luckily there’s some sort of solution to unpredictable forecasts: layers. The organization havoc these hot/cold cycles are reeking on my studio apartment — yet to be solved.
Spring weekends have a way of being brisk in the morning when I run out for coffee (I’m a bit of an early riser on Sat + Sun,) but stunningly warm in the afternoons. Since I’m usually out for long periods of time, I find myself 1) freezing in the mornings, anticipating higher temps 2) sweating my a** off in my parka because it’s 65 and sunny at 3 PM. Layers help me keep my sanity (and body at a semi-comfortable temperature throughout the day.)
For example: When I went out to shoot this look, I didn’t intend to wear my denim jacket in photos. But it was so cold on shoot day that I’m damn glad I had it — hence the inspiration for this post quickly turned from “Blush Poncho” into “Layers save lives.”
I warmed up soon after I had coffee (holding it also helped hehe) and during my walk through the sunny streets of Georgetown in heels… (that workout helped too.)
Perk of layers: After this little bit of warmth, I could easily remove my jacket and continue displaying the *original* look I wanted to show you all along!
I’ve had this light pink sweater-poncho for awhile, but I figured it was time to break it out amongst the world’s newest (and rightful) obsession with blush. I love the feminine feels of light pink paired with intensity of black — and I thought the distressed denim gave the color and textures nice contrast. And even though it was unintended, I think the denim jacket works really well with the outfit! Haha
