We’ve got Spirit, yes we do! We’ve got Spirit, how ’bout you?

We’ve got Spirit, yes we do! We’ve got Spirit – boats, booze, food, and views!

If you’ve ever walked around Baltimore’s Inner Harbor, chances are you’ve spotted the many boats that line the southeast corner of the waterfront. I’ve walked past the large Spirit Cruise boats many times during my time in Baltimore but never stopped to learn more about the experience they offer. Update: I’m happy to say that this is no longer the case! Recently, I boarded one of their big boats for a Sunday lunch cruise (b/c it’s Sunday morning and there’s food so at that point it’s basically brunch??) courtesy of Spirit Cruises!

If you’re headed on your first Spirit of Baltimore cruise, here’s how it works:

You board the boat across from the Baltimore Visitor’s Center. In our case, there was more than one boat heading out on Sunday morning, so I checked in at one of the Spirit kiosks, showing them my confirmation number, and they directed us to our specific boat. Once at our boat, a line formed to board at our designated time.

Once boarded, we were seated at a specific table for the 2-hour ride. You start off the cruise at tables because your ticket for the cruise includes food, served buffet style! Non-alcoholic drinks are included with your ticket – iced tea, soda, and coffee (my caffeine-dependent heart was happy.) Although we spent the preceding Saturday stumbling through the local breweries of Baltimore, my main dudes thought it would be a good idea to order the “Captain’s Punch.” I’ll let you picture my epic eye roll as I walked back to our table from the bathroom.

Just after our drink arrived, we were given the go-ahead to take our *first* trip to the buffet, first being the operative word. I’m always a little skeptical of hot buffets because I feel like buffet food either 1) is limited on quality in concern for quantity 2) always runs out. Well – Spirit of Baltimore definitely showed up and showed out when it came to food. They had options for all diets – a salad bar, sesame chicken, cod, mashed potatoes, cooked broccoli, pesto pasta, and few other options that I couldn’t fit on my plate!

I limited myself to one red-velvet brownie bit for dessert – mainly because I was trying to refuel my body on protein to avoid that giant cocktail from hitting me too hard – but they also had a variety of dessert options: brownies, bread pudding, and another danish-type pastry.

Once we finished eating, we were allowed to head up to the top deck of the vessel. This was definitely the highlight of the trip for us. Not only was the top deck where Kris and I had a photoshoot (you knew it was coming), but Peter could snag pictures of some notable landmarks on his cool new camera, and we all could chill at one of their many seating options to take in the beautiful weather!

All in all, we had a great Sunday lunch cruise on the Spirit of Baltimore! Being honest, I wasn’t totally sure what to expect heading into the experience, as I thought a lot of these boats were geared more for tourists or large events. After the 2-hour tour, the 4 four of us thought this experience was the perfect Sunday activity. It really felt like brunch on a boat (sans the breakfast food options.) We got to eat, drink, hang with friends, chill on a boat – not much to complain about, right?

If you’re interested in heading out on the Spirit of Baltimore with your crew, CLICK HERE to snag tickets for the awesome experience! The boat also hosts cheaper sightseeing tours (no food, ~$20/person), as well as private events. If you’ve got a special event coming up (birthday, anniversary, etc.) consider hosting your group on the open seas!
