Another festival, another staycation! Artscape 2018 is right around the corner, and I wanted to highlight some ways you can make the most of your #Artscape2018 experience. I recently took over @artscapebmore detailing the wide variety of activities available for festival go-ers. With 3 concert stages, local creative vendors, kid-centric programming, a vast selection of food stalls, and installations spanning Mount Royal, Station North, and Bolton Hill, Artscape has something for everyone in the family! And did I mention it's 3 days long?
With so much to do, you could go for a day -- or you could make a weekend out of it. As I've previously mentioned, one way to take advantage of Baltimore's big festivals -- Light City, Artscape, Book Festival -- is to curate a staycation in Downtown Baltimore! Whether you stay one night or the entire weekend, whether you live in the city or are visiting from out of town, there are hotel packages at the city's best (and most unique!) hotels that keep you close to all the Artscape action!
I did little staycation of my own at one of these hotels -- the Lord Baltimore Hotel! Conveniently located in Downtown Baltimore, the Lord Baltimore (LB) offers guests an exciting stay centered around unique experiences that can't be found elsewhere. The Lord Baltimore is special because it provides guests with multiple dining options -- inclusive of two bars and a coffeeshop. What more could I want??
The ornate architecture of the hotel's lobby and exterior, along with the space's rich history, makes the Lord Baltimore a true Baltimore gem. LB's emphasis on adorning the hotel with work by local artists makes LB the perfect space to stay during Artscape; and I truly admire their attention on remaining culturally relevant.
Upon check in, I was welcomed with a nice handwritten note from the hotel's General Manager and an incredible view from my 18th-story King Suite. After a little R&R, I headed for dinner at the LB Tavern, followed by a glass of sparkling wine at the LB Skybar, one of the only rooftop bars in Baltimore! Honestly, the LB Skybar is one of my favorite spaces; they have a solid selection of drinks and snacks, and I just love relaxing outdoors while remaining immersed in the atmosphere of the city. After grabbing a glass or two, I retired to my room for a bath and more R&R. Does anyone else love a good bath? It is ultimate relaxation for me!
After an amazing night of sleep (one of the best I've had in awhile), I headed downstairs to the LB Bakery to grab breakfast and a latte. I thought about a morning trip to the hotel gym but coffee inevitably sounded better. I then returned to my room, put my robe back on, and watched the news for a solid hour before deciding I didn't want to leave for work. So basically a normal 'Taylor' morning.
We all need a break from the routine -- and if you're as busy as I am, you understand even a night away from the grind is meaningful. Vacations aren't always logistically- or financially-feasible, so next time you're looking for a little escape, consider a staycation at one of the great hotels in your hometown! The staff at the Lord Baltimore are attentive and engaging -- and for that, I am grateful.
Have you ever stayed at the Lord Baltimore? Or eaten at any of their unique dining experiences like LB Bakery or Skybar? Thoughts? Let me know your experiences in the comments!
Thinking of a staycation but don't want to leave the pets at home? You can bring your four-legged friend along!
